Out of surgery

Audrey had her surgery this morning around 9:00 a.m. The surgeon said that the procedure went really well. It actually took him a little less time than he was anticipating. Audrey is a little bit fussy of course but the nurses said that most babies are usually more upset than she is and even after she was coming out of her anesthesia that she smiled at them groggily. Thank you to Pastor John, my parents, Candice, and Marie for being there this morning. It really helped to ease my mind and not concentrate too much what was going on during the surgery. You were all so wonderful to us. Also, thanks to my friends at MOPS! Your gift bag was very useful and fun as well. I'm so glad that I've made such wonderful friends!

We are still at the hospital now. She has to stay at least one night so they can monitor her. She still has lots of wires and stuff hanging out of her including a catheter which she really doesn't like. She just wants to stand and move and keeps disconnecting her IV and catheter bag but all that's okay because her moving means she's feeling pretty good. As I write this in the children's hospital waiting room (they have computers here for us to use! Isn't that nice?!) Granseur is cuddling Audrey while she takes a nap. I got to hold her a little bit today but she REALLY wants her daddy. I think its sweet. Speaking of which...Granseur is such a good daddy. Audrey has unhooked the connection to her catheter bag a few times and Granseur has gotten her bloody urine on his pants, but he doesn't care. He's just continuing to hold her and love her. She will still have all the "wires" until morning but should be able to get them off then and if she's doing well, we should be able to go home tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks again for everyone's generosity during this time.

Audrey's surgery

Audrey is having surgery tomorrow to correct her grade 4 urinary reflux. Things have changed a little bit. We will be there at 7:00 a.m. to prep her instead of 6:00 a.m. and surgery will start at 9:00 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m.

We will be at the hospital at least overnight with her. Hopefully she can come home on Sunday. I'll be updating my blog as I can on her surgery and recovery.

Nice People

If you know me well, you know that I'm a pretty pessimistic person. Granseur is very optimistic about everything. I just say I'm a realist because if something bad can happen, it usually does. I generally don't think people have the best of intentions and instead of thinking people are good until proven otherwise, I tend to think that most people are bad until proven otherwise. There are many reasons for this that I won't get into, but I think its rare to find a truly nice person or friend who just IS.

I know its not right and I'm been trying to change my attitude for quite some time. It does help that Granseur is there to keep my thoughts in check. Right now I think God is trying to show me His love and grace through other people and to let go of my negative thinking.

Here was our day on Sunday....

Granseur, Audrey, and I went to a 1st birthday party for a friend's little girl. While we were there we were discussing the logistics of having three babies at home. Part of that included car seats. We have an infant seat that Audrey used to use and now Audrey has a new car seat. Now, we just needed to buy one more infant seat for the time being. Our friends then offered to let us borrow their infant seat! How nice and thoughtful!

Afterwards we went to a restaurant to eat. Audrey gave her very first wave to a couple sitting across from us. She loved them and tried to talk to them. We didn't really talk that much with the couple, so they didn't really know anything about us. After they got their check and left, a waitress came up to us and said that the couple had just bought our meal for us! We couldn't believe it! I teared up of course because its so nice. We thought we would pass on the kindness and told the waitress to put a $15 tip on our card for her. (We hardly ever carry around cash.) Upon looking at our card statement....she never did! She asked if we were sure we wanted to do that, and we told her YES and why....but I guess she was trying to be nice by not taking it!

Later on that night, I was checking my e-mail. A good new friend of mine knew that Audrey was having surgery this Saturday and said that she would be there along with another friend of mine for support. She even offered money for a hotel stay so we could be close to the hospital! Even though this is a friend of mine, I have not known her that long and that grand gesture of generosity was just amazing! I can't believe so many people are so giving!

The next day my mom came over. We had asked them to pick up a triple stroller for us that we found at a consignment shop. We didn't buy it at the time because we were traveling all over that weekend and had our car stuffed. It never would have fit. I was going to pay her back when she brought it over. Well....my mom and dad are just giving it to us as a gift! How nice is that?!

I told my pastor about Audrey's upcoming surgery as well. I told him that since he's "in" with God, that I could definately use his prayers for a safe surgery and recovery. Well....he offered to be there with us! We didn't even ask!

I also really like my old OB. He delivered Audrey and was more than great during the whole pregnancy and delivery. I never felt rushed and he talked to me about all my concerns as long as I needed to. Even when Granseur had to leave the room while I got my epidural, my doctor was there comforting me the entire time and had even asked the hospital staff if my Granseur could stay while I was getting it done. He couldn't due to hospital policy but I thought it was very nice that he asked. I recently decided to leave that OB (even though I REALLY didn't want to) for this pregnancy because I know twins normally come early and I wanted to deliver at a hospital that had a high level NICU just in case. Also, if you do go into labor before 34 weeks you can't deliver at the hospital in town anyway. I just decided it was the best thing to do to switch. I told him in person and he was very nice about it. He talked with me at least a half hour about my concerns and was extremely supportive. He even offered to refer me to a physician that I liked even if I couldn't get in on my own and would continue to help me in any way he could for my pregnancy.

The thing that really gets me is the people who are so nice just because they are. They have no reason to be nice to me....I'm not their spouse, child, or relative. It's just in them and who they are.

Clearly, I'm becoming a little less cynical.

Belly pics

I haven't been good about putting up pictures of my twin pregnant belly but I want to remember this whole experience....so here it is. I will also share some from my first pregnancy just for comparison's sake. I'm getting so big so fast! I am measuring 8 weeks farther along than I actually am (which is normal for twins). The pics on the top of each set are of my twin pregnancy...the ones on the bottom are of my pregnancy with Audrey.

The scary bear!

Audrey had RSV recently and she ended up needing to do breathing treatments 3x a day for a while. The nebulizer the pharmacy gave us looks like a teddy bear. The very first treatment she had she screamed the entire way through. (It takes 10-15 minutes per treatment) I can understand though....its new and scary. She knew that the scary bear was making the terrible noise and she would glare at him and scream. After her breathing treatment was over she would look for the bear to see if he was still in our house and once she found him, she would cry and crawl away as fast as she could! Well, after a few days she got used to the breathing treatments and didn't mind them at all. I normally don't let her watch TV but I let her watch cartoons on Noggin to calm her down during the treatments. By the time we stopped doing breathing treatments she LOVED the bear and wanted to hold him all the time. It was cute.

Here's a picture of the "scary bear" nebulizer.

This is Audrey getting a breathing treatment. Her face looks a little scared but at this point she didn't mind them which is good for Mommy!

Ultrasound #2

Here's some more pictures of the twins. These were done when I was 11 weeks and 4 days pregnant. They are kind of small, so I'll explain what is what. This first picture is both of the babies. On the right is Baby A and on the left is Baby B. They are in separate sacs so that little white line you see in between them is the separation of the sacs. This is looking from their head down.
This picture is of Baby A.

This is of Baby B.

It amazes me how developed they are in such a short period of time. Due to the way doctors count a pregnancy I was technically 11 weeks and 4 days pregnant here but they have only been developing for 9 weeks and 4 days. Baby A was just layin' around being calm and Baby B was moving all over the place! I love seeing them.

I'm also going to start putting up some belly pics soon. (Clothed of course...you're not seeing my naked belly!) I got HUGE with Audrey so I can only imagine how big I'm going to get with twins. This should be interesting. I know it won't be that cute but I do think its amazing how my body can accomodate life!

Things I love about Audrey

I know that I will forget these things as she gets older, so I want to write them down now.

I love how she pulls her hair and sucks her thumb when she gets tired.

I love that she likes to have the red blankie to snuggle with to go to sleep as well as her lovey.

I love how she laughs when I tickle her.

I love how she dances when music comes on. Even if she's feeling sick and its just a commercial on TV, she always needs to dance. She thinks its what you're supposed to do!

I love how she plays peek-a-boo with me. She will bend down in her pack 'n play and pop back up waiting for me to say "Peek-a-boo!" Then she giggles and does it again and again and again. Or she'll play behind the coffee table.

I love how much she loves her daddy... (even though I get jealous sometimes). He really loves her and is great with her. She should love him. He's wonderful!

I love how she loves the dog and kitty.

I love how she tries to feed me and giggles when she does it.

I love how she shares her toys with me.

I love the big personality she has even though she's so little.

I love how she kisses herself in the mirror.

I LOVE being her mommy. I am so blessed.

VCUG appt.

Audrey had her VCUG appt. yesterday. We decided not to sedate her because she still has RSV. Granseur was able to stay in there with her but I wasn't because I'm pregnant. I could hear her screaming from way outside the door for the whole procedure. It was sad. When I went in to help get her dressed after it was all over, we laid her back down on the table to get her clothes on and she started screaming and crying even more because she thought that she was going to have to do it again. Poor girl. I hate that you can't explain to her what's going on.

Anyway, she has "severe urinary reflux" on the left side. It's bad enough that it won't correct itself and she will need surgery soon. We follow up with our doctor on what the next step is after this. I don't want my little girl to have surgery but I know that it will fix the problem. That's what was causing her awful UTIs that gave her a fever, vomit, and have seizures. So this is good that they know what the problem is.

On top of that, everyone is sick. Granseur and I have a terrible cold that won't go away and Audrey is still dealing with RSV. I'm ready for us all to be better soon!

Ordered more diapers!

We really like the cloth diapers we ordered. They fit well and haven't leaked on us yet. The only disposable diapers that we found don't leak are Pampers and those are just so expensive, so I'm really glad this cloth diaper doesn't leak. They come out of the laundry well and we're very happy overall so we ordered more!
